Kinning Park Complex (KPC) is run by a voluntary committee of artists, musicians and activists known as the KPC Community Interest Group as a not-for-profit community facility. This three storey sandstone building in the south side of Glasgow has no end of potential. Already a favourite with Glasgow’s DIY outfits, the open, proposal-driven nature of the organisation means that its monthly programmes are seriously varied. Available for hire are two bright spacious halls which can, and have, been used for a variety of purposes, including gigs, theatre shows, art exhibitions, film nights, public meetings and dance workshops.
KPC is designed to be somewhere 'you can put your ideas into action', so the space is yours to do with as you please and can be rented at very reasonable rates. The complex also includes office spaces and 14 studios, all of which are currently leased but have waiting lists for prospective tenants. Previously a council run building, the local residents saved it from closure when they occupied it for 55 days and nights in protest to the potential loss of their local facilities. All of this makes the Kinning Park Complex an excellent example of both the demand for arts venues within the city and the ability of volunteers to run them.
