Tucked under the hollow arches of South Bridge, these 18th Century vaults have been restored to house some of the best assorted events, gigs and one-off clubs throughout the month. Drinks prices and cover charge can be on the more expensive side, but a club experience in The Caves is unmatched by anywhere else in Edinburgh.
Lost and forgotten, The Caves were rediscovered after 100 years. As the name suggests, this venue lies in the cavernous depths of the hollow arches under South Bridge. The assorted bridegrooms and vaults date back to the 18th century and once upon a time housed copious litres of whisky. For the most part is has been simply restored preserving its rather beautiful raw stonewalls. The impressive main vault and main stage area is overlooked by a decent sized balcony, whilst the smaller vaults are often used to host Fringe Festival events. Known for being home to a number of eclectic club nights, including the sadly now-departed Departure Lounge, The Caves also schedule assorted events, gigs and one-off clubs throughout the month – pretty adventurous for a UNESCO World Heritage site. Drinks prices and cover charge can be on the more expensive side, but a club experience in The Caves is unmatched by anywhere else in Edinburgh.
