Founded by a Francunian (that’s a French Mancunian, FYI) this gourmet grocery store and wine merchant is the place to buy locally made products and French delights. Based in Chorlton, Epicerie Ludo stocks everything you could think of. Their impressive wine and craft ale selection is carefully selected from independent breweries, and almost all of their food has been locally sourced, whether it’s jams and chutneys, artisan pies and sausages, or ice cream from Cheshire Farm and Ginger’s Comfort Emporium. Their deli counter stocks plenty of meats and cheese, and you’ll also find a range of freshly baked bread and authentic French pastries. Epicerie Ludo stocks lots of speciality French foods that you’ll never find in a typical supermarket — cassoulet, fresh pâté, flavoured saucissons, and even snails. The award winning deli opens late into the evening too, in case you fancy a gander round the shop after an evening meal out.
Epicerie Ludo was named one of the North West's favourite food shops in The Skinny Food and Drink Survey 2015. Check out the other winners as voted for by The Skinny readers and read about all of the favourite food shops as voted for in the survey. [Charlotte Davies]
