A legendary part of Manchester nightlife, South is a bar on the student nightclub circuit tucked away behind Deansgate. Like a slightly more grown up 42s, South is a basement club that guarantees a good night out. There's student specials throughout the week with cheap entry and a few drinks offers, as well as regular DJs on rotation throughout the week. On Thursdays Manchester collective Murkage spin all kinds of hip hop, house and grime, and XFM presenter and Inspiral Carpets member Clint Boon brings the tried and tested indie anthems and old favourites every Saturday night, so it's a club designed to suit all music tastes, and a good choice if classic Manchester and Britpop tunes are your thing. They also get a fair few guest DJs in and the odd live performance from local and touring rappers, but it's the regular nights that are the best loved. [Charlotte Davies]
