RSA New Contemporaries: Video Profile
The Skinny presents RSA New Contemporaries, in association with Own Art
RSA New Contemporaries, now in its sixth year, is a curated annual exhibition, evolved from the RSA Annual Student Exhibition first held in 1976. The exhibition focuses on emergent artists and architects in Scotland, carefully selected from the five main art schools and six schools of architecture across the country in order to create a visual display of the RSA’s commitment to supporting and presenting the best contemporary art in Scotland. Colin Greenslade, director of the RSA, “envisaged that the development of this exhibition will be one of the most important initiatives for emerging artists in Scotland.” This year 62 students were given the chance to develop their degree shows into substantial bodies of work under the support of the RSA and the enviable opportunity to exhibit their work in the Royal Scottish Academy.
The exhibition presents the students with the opportunity to build a prolonged relationship with the RSA, with an array of monetary, residency, studio, and purchase prizes on offer for the exhibitors to vie for (including the prestigious Skinny & CCA Award). Additionally, a selection of works from the RSA New Contemporaries exhibition will be given the honour of space at the Fleming Collection in London, part of an initiative aimed at providing a significant platform for new Scottish artists in London.
