FutureEverything 2015: Koreless & Emmanuel Biard – The Well
Even for a producer who revels in fracturing recognisable electronic tropes into loosely connected flotsam, Young Turks-signed producer Koreless aka London-based Lewis Roberts gave himself a formidable challenge at this year’s FutureEverything, with the addition of both Daedelus-collaborating visual artist Emmanuel Biard and the four-piece Intrada Choir from Moscow to re-work material drawn from 2013 EP Yugen.
In a show first premiered at FutureEverything’s 2014 Moscow showcase, Roberts enlisted the help of local visual artist Biard to help create The Well, “a laser mirror with a flexible skin like a lens”, which then had light poured over it, refracted off it and generally subsumed it.
The Intrada Choir from Moscow meanwhile worked to subvert Koreless' futuristic sounds in a style drawn from Baroque and Renaissance choral singing, inflected with words from Russian folk songs.
A truly mesmerising spectacle, Roberts and the Intrada explain how they managed to bring their two very different worlds together.
