Still a relatively new arrival on Liverpool's ever-teeming music scene, Strange Collective offer up something a little more frazzled with latest single Heavy. With nods to the city's psych-soaked guitar pop tradition, they wallow in three minutes of hazily-askew loveliness; the perfect soundtrack to a sunspot-flecked landscape, lightly fogged with clouds of cheap marijuana smoke.
Three minutes in, however, it takes a turn: the sky falls in, the ground collapses and we're plunged into a wracked coda of frantic kraut-out pulses and panicked guitar scree. Think Thee Oh Sees, think The Warlocks with a lengthy prescription for pep pills; this is a band who are solidly coming into their own.
The beautifully-shot black-and-white video finds the boys indulging in that most delightful of pastimes: eating in the shower. As their meals dissolve into a soggy mess, with band members looking somewhat shell-shocked by the water temperature, it's hard not to notice that Strange Collective do similar things to our delirious brains.
