Inverleith House

The Edinburgh Royal Botanic is the only garden in the world to have an active programme of exhibitions spanning contemporary visual art and botanical science. You'd be hard pressed to find a more beautifully located gallery than the 18th century mansion of Inverleith House, and which used to house the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. The mansion is surprisingly bright inside, with lots of big windows which let in plenty of natural light. The gallery presents exhibitions in spring, summer, autumn and winter, all accompanied by a public engagement programme, which includes such exciting events as film screenings and artist talks.

Every exhibition held is unique, with the gallery striving to feature new work which is being exhibited for the very first time - often the artist's first showing in the United Kingdom. And if all that weren't enough, it's just a short hop to the wonders of the Botanic Gardens, so you can easily make a whole day of it.
