Perched at the top of The Mound, The Wash Bar is a good place for Old Town and New Town residents alike to meet on neutral ground. Cafe by day, bar by night, it has the magical combination of good cocktails and reasonably-priced food. There's also a regular schedule of pre-club sessions, playing a mix of funk and house, alongside regular salsa classes and even a monthly literary club. Perhaps best of all, though – and this is a rare Edinburgh find – there is a function bar which is free to hire (pending a small deposit of course, they're not Santa).
