Woodland Creatures

Woodland Creatures – complete with light up plastic animals in the window, naturally – is located in what used to be Balfours on Leith Walk. The venue has undergone nothing short of a complete transformation: out with the rough, in with the exposed brickwork, PVC timber parquet flooring and ever-changing displays of funky, modern art.

The seating is a mix of old theatre seats, timber schoold chairs and high back banquet seating, with booze prices kept at wallet-friendly levels, with homemade mains (like beef goulash and hake in lobster bisque) setting you back a mere £7 or so.

Accompanied by a good selection of draft beers and cask ales, and sporting Leith Walk's only (albeit quite wee) beer garden, there are far worse ways to while away the evening. The venue includes a 60-person events room, free for hire for all manner of events – you're even allowed to bring your own birthday cake.
