Ranjit Kaur hails from Panjab, the north western region of India. Working the family farm alongside her siblings, she received a full education in the art of Panjabi cooking, from planting seeds to plating up. Having lived in Glasgow since 1990, Ranjit’s Kitchen on Pollokshaws Road sees her fulfil her long held ambition of bringing the food from her original home to the people of her adopted one.
With Ranjit in the kitchen and her children out front, the family-run deli aims to serve Panjabi food exactly as you would find it on dinner tables throughout the region. No compromises are made to appeal to Glaswegian tastebuds: this is the way these dishes are meant to be, take it or leave it.
And you’ll pretty certainly take it. With a small menu which continually shapeshifts to match the vegetables that are locally available, it offers a vibrant range of paneers, sabjis and samosas, all bursting with flavour. Even though the home in question is on the other side of the planet, the comforting feel of real home cooking is unmistakable.
A meat-free zone, Ranjit’s Kitchen was also voted in the Best Vegetarian and Vegan category in our 2018 Food and Drink Survey.
