Bankley Studios & Gallery

Bankley Studios and Gallery is primarily a location which offers studio space to local and upcoming artists, with over 30 artists in residence currently working in the studios. Every year they host an annual 'Open Studios' event, allowing the public to view the work of each artist in residence over one weekend. The residents work in all type of disciplines, ranging from photography to sculpture, paintings to installations. Although their studios aren't open to the public all the time, private viewings can be arranged to see particular artists. The studios became a co-operative in 1998 as a way of creating a community driven space to fairly support all artists in residence. There are also a number of separate exhibitions on throughout the year, mostly showcasing the latest work by some of the studios' resident artists but occasionally partnering with schools and universities in Greater Manchester. Opening hours vary depending on the exhibition, so check our listings for more information. [Charlotte Davies]
