Possibly the most impressive music venues to open in Manchester in recent years, Albert Hall (not to be confused with The Albert Hall) has been renovated by Trof. Originally a Methodist church in 1910, this Grade II listed building now lives once more as a venue which, since opening in 2013, has already welcomed an impressive roster of acts to their stage including St Vincent, Sleater-Kinney and The Charlatans. The huge music hall (previously the church's chapel) also has rows of unreserved seating on its balcony for those who prefer to sit and watch bands instead. Trof are still working on getting a full-blown restaurant up and running downstairs, but until then their stellar line-up of DJs and musicians will do. Expect anything and everything, from drum ‘n’ bass to orchestras to indie — and if music somehow isn't your thing, it’s worth a trip to gawp at the decorative ceilings, stained glass windows and original tiling instead. Opening hours vary depending on the event. [Charlotte Davies]
