An Oldham Street veteran. Night and Day Cafe originally opened in 1991 as a fish and chip shop, and now it's an independent cafe and live music venue located opposite Picadilly Records. It's a popular venue for touring and local bands alike, with performer alumni including Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, and Elbow, who claim the venue to be an integral part of their career. During the day and into the early evening the cafe's kitchen cooks up all sorts of delicious meals, with breakfast served 'til late afternoon.
Come night time and there's almost always a band blasting out a few tunes on their stage, whether they're a hotly tipped new band on tour or a local act taking part in one of the venue's regular unsigned showcase nights — and if not there's usually DJs on until the early hours for those who just want somewhere cool to hang out after work. As well as ticket stubs and posters from gigs gone by, the walls are adorned with work by local artists and photographers, cementing itself as a favourite of the Manchester community.
