The International Anthony Burgess Foundation is an independent charity dedicated to encouraging public and scholarly interest in the life and work of the writer Anthony Burgess. The impressive engine house building located in the city centre is home to a large archive collection of Burgess' original manuscripts, letters and photographs. There's also a reading room, which is accessible by appointment only. Established in 2003 by his wife Liana, the centre is a must-visit for any Anthony Burgess fan, or simply anyone who wants to learn more about him. The venue also houses a performance space, with the intent to encourage new writers, spoken word performers and musicians to express themselves. There's also an opportunity to become a 'friend' of the foundation, which helps to support the charity and preservation of the archive materials, as well as having access to exclusive events. Their shop also offers plenty of 'A Clockwork Orange' merchandise as well as a collection of Burgess' books. [Charlotte Davies]
