The Belle brings a bit of country pub comfort to the West End of Glasgow. There’s stone walls decorated with stag heads, a roaring coal fire and a dog-friendly policy that guarantees a few wee pooches under the tables to warm your feet. The free Wi-Fi, coffee for just 99p and pleasant menu of light lunches and wraps draws a steady crowd of students during the day. You can even sip alfresco in the tables out front or the mini beer garden to the side of the pub - if the Glasgow clime is on your side, of course.
The bar serves a variety of interesting beers on draft, such as Anchor Steam and Brooklyn, as well as an extensive range of world bottled beer. The spirit selection is modest but well selected, and there is always a good deal on their Malt of the Month. As it stands, it’s a small pub and when there’s live music, usually of the folk variety, it gets pretty packed – and all the more jolly for it.
Every year, The Skinny carries out an annual Food and Drink Survey in which we pick your brains for the best watering holes, cafes and food shops in Scotland and in the Northwest. In 2015 The Belle was voted one of the best pubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh, along with Brass Monkey, The Hanging Bat, Hillhead Bookclub, Inn Deep, Nobles and The Vintage.
