Southside Social

Southside Social, the old Meadows Bar (or 'Moo Bar' to the locals), is the first social enterprise pub in Edinburgh. Happily, it’s located just off the Meadows and near the Edinburgh uni, an area which isn’t short of willing participants to have a drink for a good cause. The aim of the pub is to help Edinburgh’s young people into sustainable work, by providing them with the skills and experience to pursue a career in the hospitality business. Young people will undertake five weeks of classroom-based studying and fourteen weeks of on-the-job training where they will learn how to run a bar, wait on tables, deal with customers and manage a pub.

As well as the very attractive charitable nature of the pub, it also does seriously good burgers, has three ever-changing beers and often hosts live music with an events space upstairs. And, as if that wasn’t enough good things, at the end of the day all the profits made from the pub go to charity. And it’s dug friendly! Amen.
