The club scene in Edinburgh can get a little repetitive. Between the glossy posters luring at freshers with promises of cocktails served in teapots, and what seems like The Next Big Venue opening up every other month, sifting through the pish to get to the good stuff can take a while. The Mash House, however, isn't making claims to the title of The Next Big Venue - primarily because it's slightly caught up in arranging a ginormous array of diverse and fresh club nights.
Situated in the Cowgate, in close proximity to both the Royal Mile and Grassmarket, this former church has recently been extended and extensively refurbished to provide a large multi purpose venue going by the name of The Mash House. Formerly known as The GRV, The Left Bank, Octopus Diamond, and, erm, myriad other names, TMH seems to have accumulated the residual hypes from its forefathers, and catapulted in all sorts of directions. Three different floors means the club is able to host nights featuring everything from Techno, House and Bass through to Afrobeat Funk, Reggae, and Latin music...and we hear it's an awesome gig venue too.
The venue is also home to Just The Tonic at the Fringe festival, hosting live comedy, music and theatre, all August long. Let's just think of it as party central, shall we? [Kate Pasola]
