Tollcross dwellers are almost spoilt for choice when it comes to places to glug - the area is so central that many of Edinburgh's favourites can be reached within a short walk, and there's also a handsome selection on the doorstep. The Ventoux may have to put up a fight for its punters, but it seems to be doing a good job.
Occupying what was formerly The Illicit Still in Tollcross, The Ventoux is the second outpost from the folk behind the Tourmalet (located just off Leith Walk). For those not in the bicycle know-how, both venues are named after stages in the Tour de France – with the velo furnishings providing the missing clue, and perhaps more obviously the bicycle hanging from the ceiling. It sports 20 bottled lagers (albeit German, not French) and an outdoor seating area until 10pm. A giant fish tank and a mounted Cyberman's head add to the quirky and welcoming atmosphere.
