Whereas some bemoan the gentrification of the 'old man pubs' of Edinburgh, others wholeheartedly embrace the exposed brickwork, leather sofas and, let's cut to the chase here - extensive cocktail list that inevitably accompany them. If you belong to the latter category then the Blackbird is for you. Occupying the former Auld Toll Bar on Leven Street it does indeed have rather wonderful brickwork, leather couches, candles and - more quirkily - a giant Alice in Wonderland mural. Part of the same family as Treacle and Hamilton's of Stockbridge, it similarly boasts a sizeable cocktail menu and tasty food ranging from snacks and sharing plates to steaks and pies.
