Barrowlands

One of Glasgow's oldest and most excellent gig venues, the acoustically superb and brilliantly retro Barrowlands' Ballroom attracts the greats of indie, rock, alternative and metal.

Adorned with its humonguous, trademark, flashing neon sign you'll never have trouble finding it, the interior also boasts some flashy attributes including a sprung dancefloor. Originally an indoor market hall from the 1930's it was the perfect blank slate for creating the perfect acoustic experience. The downstairs area offers plenty of standing room and perfect those who like edging close enough to the stage to be within stroking distance of the bands. The upper, largely seated balcony is, although a little removed from the atmosphere below, a lot closer to the bar.

Oasis, U2 and The Stranglers are just a few of the big names to have graced the stage over the decades but Barrowlands is a definite must-see in its own right, regardless of who's on the bill.
